    Monthly ABNC Meeting: - Tracking the Wily Coyote
    Through his slide program, David Brown will show us the evidence to look for when out in the Quabbin region that reveals the presence of the coyote, red fox, gray fox and others. Discover how "eco-tracking" allows us to use evidence left behind to learn about the lives of these wild animals.

    ANNUAL SWIFT RIVER VALLEY SKI RUN
    Sunday, February 13, 2005
    The Annual Swift River valley Ski Run will take place Sunday, February
    13th.
    A moderate level cross country ski through some of the most unique and aesthetic landscapes in central New England. Join in at any section of the ski run:
    Complete Route: Meet at Petersham Town Hall at 10:00 AM
    Half Route: Meet at Browsns Pond, East Street at Noon
    Quarter Route: Meet at Connor's Pond, Rts. 122/32 at 2:00 PM
    The Winter 2005 Cross-Country Ski Run travels along the East Branch of the Swift River from the Phillipston town line heading southwest to the Nichewaug section of Petersham near the Quabbin Reservoir. 
    Join the fun at whatever section of the route feels right for you! All ages, all welcomed! 
    Warm beverages and light refreshments offered at the stops.

    Join Mark Dannenhauer to construct trees, fish, birds or other features that live in or by the Millers River. On Saturday April 9 we will join others in the celebration parade in Athol. All ages are welcome in this construction and on parade day. Please be sure to come to the first meeting to get basic instructions. Materials are supplied.

Dr. Haro, aquatic ecologist, will describe the impacts of these barriers, focusing on some fish that have previously received little attention, including lamprey, American eels, and sturgeon. May 21 2005 (8:15 am - 3:30 pm): Norcross Odonates - Trip Saturday, May 21 9:30-3:30 - Norcross Odonates Join an exploration of the wilds of Norcross Wildlife Sanctuary in an effort to discover what kinds of dragonflies and damselflies it harbors. This is a joint effort of the Athol Bird and Nature Club (ABNC) and Norcross Wildlife Sanctuary, led by Dave Small, President of the ABNC, and Norcross naturalist, Jennifer Ohop. Dave is a renowned MA odonate tracker. Last year he organized and led a state-wide hunt for locations of the beautiful American Rubyspot damselfly, Hetaerina americana. Jennifer has worked at Norcross since 1998. Her vast knowledge of wildlife, and natural ability to teach and entertain, together with Dave's innate ability to do the same, is sure to make this inventory outing a pleasurable one.
